Zero Energy Ready Homes
Your homeowner experience has just been raised to the next level. Choosing a new Zero Energy Ready Home gives you the power to achieve the comfortable, energy-efficient lifestyle you’ve always wanted – from the moment you move in.
What is a Zero Energy Ready Home? The U.S. Department of Energy (DOE) defines a zero energy ready home as “a high performance home which is so energy efficient, that a renewable energy system can offset all or most of its annual energy consumption. And the only difference between a zero energy ready homes and a zero energy ready home is it is designed and wired so that solar panels can be easily installed in the future, making them even more affordable today, and allowing them to become zero energy homes when you are ready. Thus, ‘zero energy ready’ is an effective way to purchase or build an ultra-efficient home that has a simple path to becoming a net zero home.
All Zero Energy Ready Homes must receive the EPA’s ENERGY STAR® & Indoor airPlus® Certification before they can qualify to be Zero Energy Ready Homes label. Only one percent of the builders in the country are currently meeting these extraordinary levels of excellence in energy efficiency and performance.
The DOE Zero Energy Ready Home Program recognizes builders for their leadership in increasing energy efficiency, improving indoor air quality, and making homes zero energy ready. It builds upon the comprehensive building science requirements of ENERGY STAR® for Homes Version 3, along with proven Building America innovations and best practices. Other special attribute programs are incorporated to help builders reach unparalleled levels of performance with homes designed to last hundreds of years.
DOE Zero Energy Ready Homes are verified by a qualified third-party and are at least 30%-50% more energy efficient than a typical new home. This generally corresponds to a Home Energy Rating System (HERS) Index Score in the low to mid-50s, depending on the size of the home and region in which it is built. A DOE Zero Energy Ready Home is a high performance home which is so energy efficient, that a renewable energy system can offset all or most of its annual energy consumption.
